In June, 2020 I was diagnosed with an anterior and posterior labrum tear in my left hip. My best option was surgery.
I'm determined to work my way back to pre-surgery conditioning (or better). This page will document my recovery, including victories and setbacks. I’ll also be sharing the things I learn along the way. Hopefully, if you're in a similar situation, this information will help you to know what you might encounter. It always helps to know that you're not alone. Thanks for following my journey. And cheers to your recovery efforts. |
I said it in my last post; I like to stay positive. However, that last post was a little bit of a downer. Things now feel like they’re on an upswing, as I’m now slowly working my way back into things. I’ve started building a home gym. I have flooring, bars, plates and dumbbells plus some accessories that I’ve accumulated over time. The rack is on its way. There’s a lot I’ve learned in accumulating my gym hardware. Sounds like that might make a good Drop-In Diary post. Hmm.
Anyway, I love the convenience of having a home setup and I love the fact that I can go at my own pace and at weights that I’m comfortable with right now. Will it replace CrossFor me? No, though it will be a very nice supplement. I can’t receive the outstanding coaching and the amazing community support I get from CrossFit at a home gym. The surgeon who performed my hernia operation has given me some guidance as to what weight levels I can be at and when, which I’ve stuck to…mostly. I’ve started using programming from my CrossFit and modifying it to my current abilities. I’ve just returned to physical therapy for my hip, which should really help to advance the ball. Hopefully, things will be able to move at a decent pace and I’ll start feeling like I used to before I needed the surgeries. My goal is to get back to the gym within the next 30 days. From there, we’ll see. I’d love to be able to do our annual 12 days of Christmas workout and starting to run again is definitely on my list. And who knows, maybe even the 2021 Open. I’m finally feeling like things are getting back on track. What’s most important is to stick to a plan and not overdo…mostly.
